The Sepik River
John Fairfull spent the majority of his time in Papua New Guinea, boating the waters of the Sepik River, or "wara Sepik" as it's called in local language of Tok Pisin. This is the longest river in Papua New Guinea, and is home to the island's emblematic scarification Initiates, where the majority of Papua New Guineas arts and artifacts are found. During John Fairfull's time spent on the river, he created a series of work influenced by the environment and it's peoples' stories.
